Bergamo surrounding mountains

Bergamo Hills Park

The Città Alta area and the surrounding hills are part of the Bergamo Hills Park . It is the third largest regional park after the Ticino and Groane parks, and encompasses a vast area in the municipalities of Almé, Bergamo, Mozzo, Paladina, Ponteranica, Ranica, Sorisole, Torre Boldone, Valbrembo, and Villa d'Almé. Starting on foot or by bike, from both the Città Alta and the Città Bassa, you can traverse terraced gardens with vegetable gardens, woods, vineyards, and meadows. The park also includes the Castello di San Vigilio , which offers a magnificent view of the Città Alta, and numerous agritourism establishments and restaurants serving typical local products, such as casoncelli (a type of pasta) or polenta taragna. Above all, I recommend Ristorante Baretto di San Vigilio, a lovely restaurant with a rustic yet elegant style, offering excellent food and a lovely terrace overlooking the city.

Orobie Alps

Nature and mountain hiking lovers simply can't miss the Orobie Alps . These are a subsection of the Bergamo Alps and Prealps and consist of beautiful mountains perfect for hiking and skiing (the highest is Pizzo Coca , 3,050 meters), alpine lakes, medieval villages , and breathtaking views. Among the most beautiful treks are undoubtedly those to the Gemelli Lakes, Val Vertova, and the 5 Lakes near Branzi, while for skiing, you'll be spoiled for choice. The best-known areas are Aprica, Foppolo, and San Simone . The hiking opportunities in these mountains are truly endless. The biggest problem with the Orobie Alps is the road system in its valleys, as the Brembana and Seriana Valleys can be very busy on holidays. This can be circumvented by setting off early in the morning or at unusual times.

San Pellegrino Terme

Moving north of Bergamo, in the heart of the Brembana Valley, lies the famous spa town of San Pellegrino Terme , known worldwide for its eponymous mineral water, Acqua S. Pellegrino. Since the spa was built in 1840, this small valley village has been transformed into a renowned holiday destination for the wealthy international bourgeoisie. In addition to the spa, other beautiful Art Nouveau buildings were gradually constructed, including the majestic Municipal Casino, the Grand Hotel , and the water bottling plant. The spa complex was renovated in 2014 and is home to the QC Terme S.Pellegrino , offering over 35 treatments in two buildings steeped in history and charm. These include panoramic pools, whirlpools, hydrojets, sensory pools, waterfalls, a Kneipp path, Vichy showers, saunas, relaxation rooms, and a natural solarium. If you're looking for a place to relax and pamper yourself, this is the place for you.

Clusone

Surrounded by mountains and green pastures, the ancient village of Clusone is a truly unique place. It's no coincidence that it's considered one of the most beautiful villages in the Seriana Valley, in the province of Bergamo. This is undoubtedly due to its rich artistic and cultural heritage, its stunning natural setting, and its delicious traditional local cuisine. The village boasts so many frescoes on its churches and historic buildings that it's often nicknamed "the painted city."
It's worth noting that Clusone was recently named one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy.
